Hi! I'm Jenny!
I always thought I was a "good" eater until a life-altering health diagnosis showed me otherwise!
Growing up as a competitive swimmer and water polo player, I took my health seriously. However, as an "Elder Millennial" growing-up in the 90's, the nutrition and diet trends of the time were absolutely BANANAS! (Hello, fat-free craze and eating only 1,200 calories! I would DIE if I did that today!)
Fast forward to 2021 and my year from hell...
I had just opened a shiny, new boutique fitness studio. Not even a month into opening our doors, my body TOTALLY BETRAYED ME!
After 8-months of various medical tests and feeling like death was around the corner, I was finally properly diagnosed with Addison's Disease, where my body doesn't produce its own stress hormones. It's just about the dumbest auto-immune disorder that wrecks havoc on your hormones, and yes, it can be fatal. Outside of the scary consequences, I truly thought to myself, "HOORAY! I can get the proper medications I need and move on with my life!"
WRONG! Life sure does have a sense of humor...
Not only was my body a total mess from the physical symptoms I was feeling, but my MENTAL HEALTH was the worst it had been in my life. My typically positive demeanor and rosy outlook on life went to hell in a handbasket. I was moody and depressed, and my anxiety was through the roof. I also had a massive inability to control my anger and I had the ugliest outbursts you could ever imagine.
These were not my best moments; these were not my best years.
It took another 2 years of sickness, learning, adapting, learning some more, getting sick some more, and feeling like hot-garbage, before I FINALLY felt like myself again.
The biggest lesson I learned through all this:
NUTRITION IS MEDICINE!
During these two years I cleaned up my nutrition A TON and what I was the most excited about was how my mental health improved and also improved beyond my “normal” before I got sick. It altered my life forever in the best way possible.
But here’s the thing: nothing I did was revolutionary. Nor was it a special diet. And I definitely didn’t eliminate any foods. And what I did as someone with an autoimmune disorder were things that ANYONE AND EVERYONE can do. And I promise you, the strategies I learned and currently do to this day are not complicated! I'll help you cut through the BS with what REALLY works!
As a former Mental Health Counselor and current Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Holistic Health Coach, it's my mission to help women achieve mental wellness through nutrition. So, if you’re tired of talk-therapy going nowhere and your doctor continually pushing brain meds on you, I encourage you to try healing from within at the cellular and metabolic level, with simple, easy-to-implement nutritional strategies that’ll change your life - and your mental outlook - for good!
